Bridgefield Guest House stands as the original guesthouse of Margaret River, an enduring landmark at the entrance to town and a living remnant of its earliest days of settlement. Dating to the era when travellers arrived by coach and river crossings shaped the township, Bridgefield has welcomed guests for generations and remains closely woventhe story of the Margaret River region.
Set along the main street, the house places guests within easy walking distance of galleries, cafés, restaurants, and the river walk trails, yet retains a sense of stepping backa quieter, more measured time. Its architecture and interiors reflect an eclectic fusion of late Victorian origins and the gentler domestic rhythms that followedthe early twentieth century - a placeage, adaptation, and continuity coexist rather than compete.
Inside, guests will find spaces shaped by history rather than replicated from it: original rooms, generous proportions, and details that speak to lived use over time. In winter, the guest lounge offers the warmth and intimacy of a traditional hearth, inviting conversation and reflection. A notable feature is the original circa-1904 parliamentary backbench from the Western Australian upper house, offering a tangible link to the civic and social life of the period.
Bridgefield Guest House unfolds across three distinct buildings, each contributing to the layered character of the property. The original guesthouse forms the heart of the experience, offering a shared seating area with an open fireplace and kitchen amenities, and four individually characterised rooms. Two of these retain classic footed baths, while three open onto private courtyards, reinforcing the sense of quiet seclusion within the town centre.
Set slightly apart, the freestanding Cabin provides a self-contained retreat, with its own patio and a more private, contemplative atmosphere.
The Gallery building reflects a later chapter in Bridgefield’s evolution while remaining sympathetic to the house’s historic character. It houses the Forest View Suite, a romantic accommodation styled in keeping with the property’s charm, featuring personal balconies, a fully fitted kitchen, a spa bathroom, and a queen bed. The Champagne Room offers a similar sense of indulgence, with its own balcony and spa, suited to guests seeking a more elevated stay within the historic setting. Below, the Merlot Room adjoins a welcoming lounge furnished with Chesterfield sofas and kitchen facilities - a particularly inviting space during the cooler months.
Two independent restaurants, La Scarpetta Trattoria and Pizzica, operate within the historic buildings, offering authentic Italian dining in the evenings and adding to the layered life of the property as a place still actively inhabited and enjoyed.
Bridgefield Guest House is not a reconstruction or a themed stay, but an authentic house shaped by time, use, and care - offering guests the experience of staying within the original fabric of Margaret River’s beginnings. Guests are warmly welcomed via reception just across the street at Adamsons Riverside Accommodation, continuing a tradition of hospitality that has endured since the town’s earliest years.
